When the Catholic Church decides to close the tiny convent of St. Gudrun and dispose of its assets, it unwillingly brings tragedy to the peaceful village of Redston. For Redston's greatest asset is the Monstrance created by legendary goldsmith, Teodoro Borzoletti, in the 18th Century, and now believed to be worth millions to a collector. In Redston Hall, Austin Reeves-Mercer, a noted Protestant, struggles to keep his ancestral home solvent, but an ancient family feud brings the actual ownership of the Monstrance into question and tensions mount. |

Marion Bishop, an elderly writer, is dying. Katherine Willis looks after Marion, while coping with her own mentally backward brother of twenty. Whilst Katherine is away in Scotland, to attend a wedding, Laura a nurse from London comes to take care of Marion. A series of mysterious phone calls and the appearance of Marion's rapacious nephew Raymond, set off a nightmare situation which becomes increasingly complicated when Katherine's brother is found murdered in a ditch. Deceit, suspicion, blackmail and incrimination are subtly woven into a web of crime which is completed by a dramatic confrontation scene just before an ingenious twist brings a surprising close. |

Ageing horror star Romney Marsh gathers together a group of theatre people ostensibly to a read- through of a new play. With the arrival of the last guest Romney instructs the gatehouse keeper to loose the guard dogs into the grounds. With a moat full of piranha fish, Romney is confident his guests are trapped. Someone has been sending him newspaper cuttings about Mabel Monks suicide, an actress with whom he had an affair thirty years ago, and he intends to find out who is responsible. But before he can Tanya is found with her throat cut, and Romney himself is poisoned with his own chocolates. Marooned in the house the other guests realize that the murderer must have some connection with Mabel Monks - the finger of suspicion falls on each of them in turn, until the final truth is revealed, with fatal consequences. |
